The music of The Fireballs came out of the creative hothouse that was Norman Petty's Clovis studios (where Buddy Holly cut great music too). Blue Fire was finished in 1960 and intended as the follow-up to their second album Vaquero. It never saw the light of day as the Top Rank label went bankrupt before the album's release. A superb set in true stereo, it is hard to believe that it's taken so long for this album to see a first release. Rarities, meanwhile, gathers together 18 previously unissued and 1 issued recordings in a real musical bonus for all die-hard instrumental enthusiasts and hard-core Fireballs fans.
